Additional SP Kokate said, “We have received orders from the court to arrest Gunjalkar for his non-payment of money to the department. His phone is switched off and he is absconding from his residence as well. We are trying to locate him, he is not traceable.”

In 2008, Gunjalkar had reported threats from a local gang leader and applied for police protection. Since his party was in power at that time, his demand for armed police protection was accepted. This 24/7 protection from 2008 to 2012 cost him Rs 66 lakh, which he has now refused to pay.

According to cops, with interest, the amount has surmounted to a crore.
