“We wanted to make them feel important and show that we genuinely care for them. Eighteen schools participated and each school sent as many employees as they could spare. I sent all my peons and cleaning staff, and all of them were felicitated,” said Rekha Shahani, principal of Kamla High School in Khar.
The event was held at Rizvi Springfield School in Bandra and the attendees included schools like St Stanislaus High School, St Joseph’s High School, Duruelo Convent High School and Cardinal Gracias High School.
Not only were the staff members felicitated, but some of the teachers also put up a show and performed for the audience. Principals were also seen interacting with all the guests and ensuring that everybody felt comfortable.
“It’s not common for these staff members to be part of functions even in their own schools and, so, it was important to make sure that even they be told that they are important to us. We also wanted our students to know the true meaning of dignity of labour,” said a principal attending the event.
More the merrier
Every guest present at the function was awarded a memento and the non-teaching staff were individually invited on stage to receive their gifts.
“We have decided to make this a regular feature and also plan to invite other schools to conduct a similar exercise. Hopefully,
more and more schools and students will take a cue from this function and follow a similar culture in their schools as well,” said Fr Jude Fernandes, principal of St Stanislaus High School, Bandra.
The function was followed by lunch and the cost of the event was split by the 18 schools.
