In yet another stain on khaki, a police constable from Mumbai has been suspended after he allegedly tried to rape a female colleague during a patrol at Sewri jetty.
According to a report in the timesofindia, the incident took place earlier this year, but it came to light only recently when deputy police commissioner (port zone) Sunita Thackeray suspended the constable Raju Bijore.

Timesofindia further reported that after the woman narrated the incident to her seniors, they supposedly told her not complain against the constable, but instead accept an apology from Bijore.
The alleged incident is said to have taken place in April when Bijore was put on patrol duty along with the female constable at Sewri jetty. "I tried pushing him back. I said, 'Please stop, don't do this to me'. But Bijore wouldn't leave me," the woman cop said in her complaint handed to senior. Luckily, she managed to flee. The woman approached her seniors the next day, but they allegedly asked her to take it easy, sensing the incident would cause further embarrassment to the already embattled Mumbai Police.

There was not much action in the case until the newly-appointed DCP Thackeray came to know of the incident recently and met the constable.
