Can't afford private coaching classes? A new trend, which is slowly gathering steam in the city, allows students to download free mobile applications and just pay for specific lectures that they can listen to on their handsets. The move has been initiated by several city-based private coaching institutes to create technology that can help reach out to students, who can't pay for coaching classes. The apps, which were earlier only available for professional courses such as engineering and medical entrance tests, have now been extended to traditional courses, as well as Std X and Std XII.

While the apps are free for download, students have to pay fees on an hourly basis for whatever topic or chapter they wish to watch in the video tutorial. "The tutorials are gaining popularity as students do not want to join classes for all subjects," said Narendra Bambwani from Reliable Classes, which has begun mobile applications for Std X and Std XII. An hour-long session on the app costs around Rs 30, he said. "After introduction of GST, coaching institutes have become costlier for parents to afford. Hence, this is a feasible option. Students can replay the same tutorial as many times as they want to understand the topic effectively," said Bambwani.
Sachin Karnavat, president of Maharashtra Class Owners' Association, who also runs Karnavat Classes, said, "We have also launched a mobile application, where we've begun sharing specific notes. It is completely free at this stage." According to Anuj Shah, a commerce student from Bhavan's College, such apps provide flexibility. "If I join a class, I have to sit for all subjects. With the app, I can only subscribe to subjects where I need help."
Another student Vaishnavi Kulkarni, who is preparing for the National Entrance and Eligibility Test (NEET) for medical courses, said, "I can repeat any video, till I haven't fully understood the concept. You can't expect your coaching class teacher to repeat lessons, just because one student didn't understand something."
60 Time (in minutes) each session will last
