A 45-year-old footpath dweller was crushed to death when a coconut tree split and fell on him near the Gokul Anand Hotel in Dahisar east on Saturday evening at around 4.30 pm.

The deceased, identified as Ramnivas Yadav, a native of the Sidhharthnagar district in Uttar Pradesh, lived on the footpath. The incident occurred while he was resting under the wilted coconut tree. “My brother was unemployed and had come to the city a month-and-a-half ago to look for a job,” said Mahendra Yadav (25), the deceased’s younger brother.

An accidental death report has been registered and the body has been taken to Bhagwati Hospital for autopsy.
