An alert security guard has thwarted a woman’s suicide bid at Powai lake. According to Powai police sources, the incident took place yesterday.
Speaking to mid-day, Imtiyaz Khan, the security guard, said, "I was on patrol duty around 10.30 am, when I saw a woman near the edge of the lake. It didn’t make me suspicious because locals come to feed the fish in the morning. But within a few seconds, I saw her jump into the water. When I saw her drowning, I immediately swerved my boat towards her and alerted two other security guards patrolling in the lake. I also informed Powai cops, so that the woman could be rushed to hospital as soon she was rescued."
After the guards rescued the woman, they resuscitated her before Powai cops arrived at the spot and took her to the nearest hospital.
The cops later identified the woman as Savita Jankar, 35, a resident of Bhim Nagar in Powai. A Powai police officer said, "Savita Jankar’s condition is stable now. Her family members said that she had been mentally disturbed for quite a few months, which could have led her to attempt suicide. We are probing the case to verify their claims."
