A 40-year-old pillion rider died after he fell off the bike and came under a truck near the Wadala flyover late last night.
The rider, Jagannath Reddy (30), however, sustained minor injuries. The accident occurred when the biker lost control of the bike and Madhav fell off.
The truck driver has been booked for the accident
Reddy and Madhav were coming from Sewri towards Wadala. While passing through a crossing under the bridge, Reddy lost control and Madhav flew over him and came under the back wheels of a truck coming from the opposite direction.
Eyewitnesses said the truck had almost passed through the crossing when Reddy tried to overtake the truck and lost balance. As Madhav wasn’t wearing a helmet, his head got completely crushed under the wheels.
The bike doesn't have a single scratch
Reddy sustained minor injuries to the stomach and head. He was taken to Sion hospital for treatment. "He is traumatised and has got minor wounds on his stomach and head. He hasn't vomited but as a precautionary measure, we have kept him for observation," said Dr Abhisekh Mehta, medical officer in the emergency ward of the hospital.
Madhav's body has been sent for a post mortem. As per initial investigations, the accident happened because of the negligence of the rider. "Despite such a deadly accident, the bike hasn’t got a single scratch, which proves that the truck didn’t hit the bike. Anyway, we have booked the driver and we will investigate the matter," said an officer from Matunga police station, where a report has been filed.
