A professional photographer who was charged by the Borivli Railway GRP yesterday for bashing up a 22-year-old man in the Gujarat Express train, was released after a warning. Sanjay Mehta, a resident of Napean Sea Road, was arrested by the railway police after Salil Singh, a resident of Dahisar East accused him of beating him up in the train.

Singh told sunday mid-day that he was on his way back to Mumbai from Umergaon station after completing his work and had bought a second class compartment ticket in the Gujarat Express train. “When I entered the compartment, I found that four people had occupied seats meant for eight. They refused to let me sit, even when I showed them my ticket. After a long heated argument, the four men started hitting me. None of the other passengers came to my rescue. I managed to escape and ran to another compartment, but by then, I had already sustained injuries on my mouth and head,” said Singh.

His brother, who lives in Dahisar, came to Borivli station after he received Singh’s call and they managed to nab one of the four men and hand him over to the Borivli Railway GRP. “The other three men escaped,” said Singh. On the other hand, Mehta told the police that Singh argued with them and hit them first. Railway police officials from Borivli GRP said, “We fined Mehta Rs 1,200 and released him after giving a warning as he has no criminal record. We have taken the statements of both Singh and Mehta and will investigate the matter further.”
