In a scene straight out of a Bollywood crime thriller, two doctors kidnapped and assaulted the CEO of a hospital, also their business partner, held him at gunpoint and forced him to sign over his share in the company.
According to a report in Mumbai Mirror, Dr Bijoy Kutty and Dr Anuj Bhasin abducted and beat up Dr Sanjit Paul, the CEO of Platinum Hospitals, before pointing a gun at him. Mirror report stated that Paul was kidnapped on Wednesday from near his residence in Mulund by the two doctors associated with Icon Heart Institute, which a sister concern of Platinum Hospitals. The duo then took him to a bungalow in Dombivli, and allegedly got thugs to assault him. They apparently also forced him to sign over his partnership in the company, and later dropped him back, warning him against going to the cops.
However, Paul approached the Mumbai Police after which Kutty and Bhasin were called in for questioning. The cops let them go, asking them to return later.
The Mumbai Mirror report detailed that Paul and Bhasin had started the Icon Heart Institute in 2009 while Kutty joined as partner three years later. However, things soured after Bhasin and Kutty changed the name of the hospital to Icon Heart Care without Paul’s knowledge. “They changed the name without my permission or knowledge. I had to face a lot of difficulties as all the payments were to be in favour of the original name and due to this name change, even the banks were confused as they started depositing the payment in a different account opened by these two. I demanded an explanation from my partners,” Paul was quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror.
The report further said that the duo was afraid that Paul would remove them from the partnership and thus hatched a plan. On Wednesday, Paul got a call from Kutty asking him to meet as he had some urgent work. After they met, Kutty asked Paul to sit inside his car. They drove to Goregaon Link Road. Here, an SUV came and stopped ahead of Kutty’s car. Some people got down from the SUV and sat in Kutty’s car. One took the front seat while Kutty asked the driver to leave and took his seat, “When I asked Kutty for an explanation, he told me that Bhasin was waiting for us with the DCP in Dombivali and we had to reach there. I was suspicious as the DCP’s office is in Mulund so why would he wait for us in Dombivali. But I was too scared to protest so I kept quiet,” said Paul.
At Dombivali, he was taken to a house, where Bhasin was also present. Paul was assaulted, and forced to sign the papers at gunpoint. Senior inspector Rajaram Vhanmane of Mulund police station told Mumbai Mirror, “An FIR has been registered and we are gathering evidence to support the victim’s claim. Only after that will we arrest the accused.”
