A 23-year-old man was arrested by the railway police for sexually assaulting a 24-year-old women while travelling in train. According to the police, the arrested accused identified as Alok Kumar Yadav 23, a resident of Thane. The woman a resident of Panvel was travelling in the Thane-Panvel woman first class compartment towards Panvel side. She was travelling at 1:18 pm to 1:55pm, when the incident took place between Rabale and Nerul railway station on August 17.
The woman in her statement to police allegedly said that she boarded the train from Thane. "The accused Yadav boarded the first class compartment from Rabale railway station. And sexually assaulted the woman. The woman then called the Railway helpline 182 and complained about the same. Passenger caught hold the accused at Nerul railway station. As there was no Railway Police Force staff at Nerul railway station he was taken to Panvel railway station," said an official from Vashi GRP.
With the help of Railway Police Force stationed at Panvel Railway station he was handed over to the Government Railway Police, Panvel.
A case was register at Panvel police station under section 354 of the Indian penal code and further seeing the gravity of the case it was been transferred to Vashi police station.
