A 29-year-old woman has filed a complaint against her live-in partner, a Finnish national, for raping her after promising marriage. The complaint was filed on September 27 and police are investigating.

Police said the woman worked as an event manager at Chhattisgarh and became friends with Kari Juhani Hakila (55), who is from Finland, but travels between Singapore and Mumbai, as his company has a branch in Bandra. Hakila and she became friends in February 2016, through an app.

In the month of May, the woman came down to Mumbai to meet Hakila. He asked her to move in with him in Mumbai, and she agreed. They stayed at Chimbai, Bandra.

But after few months, the woman doubted that he was cheating on her. The doubt seemed to be cleared when in August, a woman came to their flat, and claimed she was dating Hakila. Police said Hakila gave her money and asked her to leave. After the woman left, Hakila argued with the complainant. Police said he also assaulted her and threatened to kill her. Hakila then locked her in a room for few days.

On September 15, Hakila left for Singapore. Later he didn’t respond to her calls or messages. She then approached Bandra police.

Senior PI Pandit Thackeray of Bandra police said, “We haven’t got Hakila’s proper address in Singapore. Once we get it, we will send him summons and ask him to speak to us.”
