While speaking to MiD DAY, the telecom operator working in a private bank said, “Bharat is from my native city, Khushinagar in Uttar Pradesh and I had come to live with him in 2006 as he had promised me a job at an airline company. While staying at his residence in Ghansoli in Navi Mumbai, he would beat me up, sodomise me, and then lock me up so that I could not narrate the incident to any outsider.”
“I kept quiet for some time as he had promised me a job. In 2010, he got married and shifted to Kalina. I was hoping he would stop after that, but Bharat would turn up at my place and continue the abuse. He would threaten me as well.” According to the victim, when he finally decided to mention the incident to Bharat’s wife, she refused to believe him. When he presented her evidence in the form of pictures, she asked why was he angry if her husband was happy about it.
He decided to approach the Koparkhairane police but they refused to register his complaint. The victim then met State Home Minister RR Patil after which the offence was registered under sections 377 (unnatural offences), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC.
By then, Bharat had settled in Doha. The police sent a lookout notice against him and was in the process of sending a red corner notice when he was caught at Goa airport. Sunil Pawar, inspector ay Koparkhairane police station, said, “When Bharat arrived from Doha at the airport on Saturday night, he was detained by the authorities based on the lookout notice issued against him. They handed him over to us and we have brought him back to Navi Mumbai.”
