A case of molestation has been registered at Agripada police station against an unidentified accused, for placing mobile phone cameras inside the common bathrooms of a SoBo tower in Byculla West on October 9.

The incident came to light on October 8 when a female maintenance staff member noticed a mobile phone inside the bathroom near the window.

According to police officials, the 19-year-old woman, at first, assumed that one of her colleagues had misplaced the phone. But on noticing that the phone faced her, she searched the cell phone and realised that the phone filmed her while she took a shower. The woman brought the incident to the attention of her employer, who suggested that she register a case at the police station.

An officer from Agripada police station said, “The tower includes a common toilet and bathrooms for the housekeeping staff members working in the vicinity. However, an unidentified person hid the phone inside the bathroom to record women bathing.”

The cops suspect that a fellow maintenance staff member might have committed the crime. An investigating officer, requesting anonymity, told sunday mid-day, “The mobile phone we recovered is so new that even a SIM card hasn’t been inserted yet. Hence, it is assumed that the phone was bought solely for this purpose. However, we are investigating the case and are trying to get clues as the bathroom is situated on the fourth floor of the building.”

A case under Section 354 (C) (specific act of either watching or capturing the images of a woman engaging in a private act where she expects privacy) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered at the Agripada police station.
