Police identified Ramesh Nath (left, and below) and Manoj Parmar from the CCTV grabs they had with them, and nabbed them from Dahisar on Tuesday. The two men would wear saris and pose as eunuchs to loot people
The duo, identified as Ramesh Nath (26) and Manoj Parmar (25), are residents of Mumbra, and would leave their respective homes dressed as men. They would then find a suitable place to change into women’s clothing, and would board local trains and demand money from commuters, or scout the city, looking for people to con and rob.
Conned woman of gold
Cops had been on the lookout for the duo after a 30-year-old housewife from Dahisar filed a complaint in January, accusing them of robbing her valuables and fleeing.
According to the MHB police, the woman, in her complaint, had stated that the duo, posing as eunuchs, had approached her and learnt that she was having difficulty bearing children. They told her that she would conceive if she followed their instructions, and asked her to organise a havan at her place.
On the day of the ritual, they asked her to collect all her gold ornaments and cash in one bag, and the ingredients required for the havan in another bag. They told her to place it at a junction of four roads and walk away from the spot without turning back.
When the gullible woman did so, the accused picked up the valuables and escaped in an auto rickshaw. When the woman did turn around, she couldn’t spot the duo and realised she had been conned. She then approached the local police station and filed an FIR against them.
“On Tuesday, both the accused were targeting another victim, when our team spotted them and nabbed them. They were identified with the help of CCTV footage that we had. The accused have several cases registered against them at various police stations across the city.
Further investigations are on,” said Manoj Satarkar, assistant police inspector at MHB police station. The police added that Nath is married and has a daughter, while Parmar has separated from his wife.
