Producer-director Shyam Charan Yadav (35), was arrested from his residence in Jogeshwari, while two of his associates — who have been booked for threatening and cheating the survivor — are on the run.
The 42-year-old Pakistani entertainer met the accused at a film launch in 2012. They exchanged numbers and soon connected through Facebook and WhatsApp as well. She would frequently visit India, and they decided to work on a project together.
She and Yadav starred in the leading roles in a 2014 documentary on AIDS, titled ‘Road to Revenge’. The actress paid lakhs to finance the project. Later, Yadav suggested they could make a Hindi film together, and he began to ask her for money. The actress told the police she gave him R35.8 lakh, but the film was never completed.
She began to demand her money back, but Yadav used to avoid the subject. When she insisted on it, however, Yadav and two of his associates, Tiger and Bablu Rai (residents of Vapi) began to threaten her, saying they would expose a video of her getting physically intimate with the filmmaker. The actress further alleged that Yadav raped her several times when she asked for her money. Both the accused and the actress are married. She has six children.
“The actress approached the police station on Thurs-day night and informed us that Yadav had raped her several times. We have registered the case and arrested the director, while the other two accused are absconding,” said Police Inspector Vasant Labade of Kanakia police station at Mira Road.
