Mumbai crime: Alcoholics arrested for raping kin in two separate cases

Two separate rape cases have been registered at MIDC police station, Andheri (East), where a father and brother-in-law of the respective victims have been arrested. Police said that both accused are alcoholics, and had committed the crimes under the influence of alcohol. The perpetrators are labourers, the police added.

In one case, MIDC police arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly raping his six-year-old daughter at his residence. On Friday (July 3) evening, the accused’s wife had left home for an errand. The accused allegedly drank alcohol when his wife was away, and raped their daughter.

When his wife returned home, the daughter complained of chest pain, and revealed the incident to her mother, who registered a complaint with the MIDC police station. On Friday night, the police arrested the accused. He said he had committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.

In a second case, a 24-year-old man was arrested by MIDC police, for repeatedly raping his 13-year-old sister-in-law over three months. The incident came to light after the survivor informed her sister about the incident on Friday.

According to the police, the accused had been raping his sister-in-law when his wife used to step out for work. He had threatened the victim with dire consequences if she did not remain silent. Not being able to withstand the ordeal, the victim broke down on Friday and told her sister about the repeated incidents.

Subsequently, a case was registered with the MIDC police station, and the accused was arrested. The police have decided not to reveal the name of the accused since the victims are related to the perpetrators in both cases.
