The Mazgoan Metropolitan Magistrate court was hearing the bail application of Dawood Ibrahim's brother, who was lodged in judicial custody, in connection to an extortion case.
He was arrested on February 3 in connection with an extortion case registered with J J Marg police station in central Mumbai. A magistrate's court had on Friday remanded him to judicial custody till February 20.
The police had sought remand of Kaskar on the ground that they want to investigate whether he had connections with Dawood. Police also said he might also threaten the complaint hence bail not to be granted.
However, Kaskar's lawyer argued that further custody was not required. The magistrate then rejected the remand application.
Real estate agent Mohammed Salim Sheikh filed complaint at J J Marg police station alleging that Kaskar and his men had thrashed him and demanded Rs 3 lakh after which Kaskar was arrested.
Kaskar and two others were booked under sections 385 (extortion), 323 (causing hurt) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal code.
