Cops tracked down the pair in Ludhiana, where the two of them had married in a local temple. While the girl was returned to her parents’ care, her lover was arrested for kidnapping and raping a minor. Cops said that the girl, a resident of Vile Parle, was having an affair with the accused for the past five months.
According to the Juhu police, on November 11, the man told the girl to leave her house and go to Vile Parle railway station. From there, they left for Mumbai Central and boarded a train to Ludhiana. On November 13, the couple got married in a local temple there.
After the girl went missing, her parents registered a complaint against her lover at the Juhu police station. Police had alerted their sources and soon found out from his friends that he had intended to go to Ludhiana. Cops sent a team there and tracked the couple down using their mobile signal.
The police brought the couple back to Mumbai on Wednesday. “The accused has been charged with rape and kidnapping under the IPC and also under sections of the Protection of Children Against Sexual Offences Act,” said Inspector Pandit Thakre from Juhu police station, adding, “although the girl went with the accused of her own will, since she is a minor, we arrested the man for luring her into eloping with him.”
