A birthday is a memorable occasion, but for Pranali Jadhav and six of her friends, hers will be remembered for the wrong reason, as all of them landed in hospital with food poisoning after it.

For her 15th birthday party, Pranali, a resident of Khar, took her friends out for dinner on Saturday, after having the cake. They had gone to a Chinese restaurant in their locality and later complained about headache, vertigo, giddiness and vomiting. Locals rushed them to VN Desai hospital where food poisoning was detected. They are out of danger but have been kept under observation till Monday.
"My daughter was invited for a birthday party. She and friends went for dinner at a restaurant after having the cake. She then complained of stomach ache, headache and vomiting," said Gulam Muhammad, Saba Shaikh's (12) father.
Others who were admitted for similar complaints besides Pranali and Saba include Nandini Jadhav (16), Madhuri Pawar (18), Swati Tambe (19), Sukeshni Jadhav (18) and Ruchi Jadhav (13).
"We have treated them and they have been kept on a fast for sometime. Their blood samples have been sent for tests," said a doctor from VN Desai hospital.
Sachin Kasare, a neighbour of Pranali told midday, "We have lodged a complaint with the police."
The police have recorded the statements of the victims in the case. Shankar Bhore of Nirmal Nagar police station, the investigating officer said, "The primary investigations have revealed it is food poisoning. We have sent samples of the food and also of the cake to a laboratory and the report is awaited."
