A Mumbai police's night patrolling team foiled what was supposed to be the perfect plan to steal over 700 LED TV sets and 80 ACs being transported in a container, on Sunday night. The police have arrested one person while they are looking for three more in connection with this.
According to the Kurla police, while on night patrol, a detection team led by API Daya Jadhav intercepted a container at Maharashtra weigh bridge, parked in a suspicious manner. The seal of the container was broken and two persons nearby tried to flee when they approached. However, the police team nabbed one of the duo, identified as Shadab Khan, 27.
During interrogation, he confessed to stealing the container in connivance with its driver. It originally contained 817 LED TV sets and 80 ACs.
The LED TV sets and ACs from a LG company assembly unit, were loaded onto the container, which was to deliver them to a Bhiwandi warehouse. The driver, with the help of the other three accused, decided to steal the container and the goods. Police said the driver had even prepared a fictional story to avoid arrest if their plan was successful.
Rajiv Jain, deputy commissioner of police Zone-V, said, "We have lodged an FIR under Sections 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating) and 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code and are investigating the case. We have arrested one accused and will soon trace the others."
