With just three days left for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to complete a survey on the city's livability index as part of the Ease of Living Index 2019 launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, only 14,000 citizens of the city's 1.2 crore population have filled in their responses. The civic body wants at least 2 per cent [2,40,000]of the population to take part in the survey considering the poor response would lead to a dip in their rank. In the 2018 survey (citizens' participation was not included), Mumbai had ranked third in the livability index.

The Ease of Living Index 2019 survey includes 114 cities of the country and the ranking is based on the sole criterion of livability index. Speaking to mid-day, mayor Kishori Pednekar said, "We want more citizens to come forward and fill in the survey. We will also ask corporators to spread the word in their respective wards and through their social media networks to engage more citizens in the process." When asked why the appeal was coming out so late, she said, "We have been advertising through various mediums but now it's important to involve everyone in rating their city on a high scale."
However, with the citizens' survey being considered a criterion for deciding the city's livability index, the BMC fears that their rank might go down considering the questions being asked about flooding, housing facility and transportation facility. About 30 per cent of the weightage (for ratings) has been given to citizens' response. The survey has about 21 questions on health, education and recreational facilities in the city. There are a couple of questions on cleanliness and flooding too.
The Delhi police on Tuesday issued an order to shoot at sight for the north east Delhi region. On Tuesday, a video surfaced of an armed police officer warning the crowd to remain indoors failing which they will be shot at.
The Indian Express and the Hindu also reported, quoting their sources, that the Delhi police have allowed the policemen on duty to shoot at those indulging in violence in the national capital's north east region where clashes broke out between pro- and anti-CAA protesters. The violence that erupted on Sunday has killed 13 people in three days and injured around 190 others. Police have also sealed roads that lead to Ghaziabad.
