A father's timely action of administering CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on his 45-day-old son, who was having difficulty breathing, saved the infant's life. Doctors at Wadia Children And Maternity Hospital in Parel, say this ensured the child was admitted in stable condition, which saved his life.
According to Hindustan Times, Priyom Choudhary was suffering from a respiratory infection and fever. While he was en route to the hospital, his condition worsened, after which his father Guddu Choudhary, who worked as a labourer in a steel company, took the decision to give him CPR.
Doctors diagnosed Priyom with left arterial Myxoma. A tumour was discovered in the upper chamber of his heart. Priyom was transferred to the paediatric ICU, where he was ventilated, stablised, after which a six-hour long open heart surgery was conducted to remove the tumour.
Sources at the hospital feel the tumour may have developed, when he was in his mother's womb, which blocked an artery in his heart.
About CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure that helps restore blood circulation and breathing in a person who is in cardiac arrest. This is achieved by combining chest compressions often with artificial ventilation in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function. This is generally done through the use of mouth-to-mouth breathing.
