A couple that runs together, stays together, and newlyweds Anan Subramanian and Melissa Andrews proved that right by participating in the Mumbai Marathon on Sunday two days after their wedding. The Chicago-based couple got married in the city on Friday, January 19. They will fly back home today. Running the Mumbai marathon for the first time, Anan finished in an impressive three hours and five minutes, while Melissa stood tenth in the women's full-marathon category, with timing of 3 hours and 44 minutes.
Anan, who was born and raised in Mulund said, "We decided to combine both the occasions [marriage and marathon]. I was in good running shape and always wanted to take part in the Mumbai marathon because it's a hometown marathon for me." Speaking about her experience, Melissa said, "I was a little nervous running this marathon because the temperatures are quite high here. We hail from a place where temperatures go down to minus 10 to 15 degrees Celsius. It was challenging for me, but we did practice here, so that worked."
While Mumbai is a first for the couple, they have run another marathon together: the Miami marathon in 2017. Now, they've qualified for the Boston marathon, which will be held on April 16.
