Playing unlicensed Bollywood songs at one of their eateries has invited two FIRs against Big Fish ventures under various sections of the Copyright Act.

The case was filed by Novax communication, the company sanctioning copyright licences to hoteliers for playing Bollywood songs (of music companies that have give them these rights) against the Junkyard Café in Bandra, which belongs to Big Fish ventures.

The Hill Road establishment had played two songs on February 8, 2017 that belong to Yash Raj Films and Zee music companies without having the requisite licence to do so. Novax had then moved court against Junkyard and close to a year after that, a Bandra court instructed the Bandra police station to register the offence and investigate the case.

Pandit Thakarey, senior inspector, Bandra police station said, "After the court order, we have registered the FIRs and are investigating the cases." In the past, courts have issued many diktats about not playing unlicensed music in eateries or pubs.
