Ascot at Mahalaxmi
With the horse racing season over at Mahalaxmi, the focus shifts to… Ascot.

The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) Hooves clubhouse is giving members an opportunity to watch the Ascot race live on a screen at the clubhouse.

We hear serious punters are getting into gear for the big one from overseas. Hmmm, that's called galloping in a global world.

Purple Skies off to 'Frisco'
We hear that Purple Skies, a documentary feature on Indian lesbians, bisexuals and trans men which had its world premier at the recently concluded Kashish Mumbai International Queer Film Festival in May, is all set to have an international premier at one of the world's oldest and biggest Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender (LGBT) film festivals.

This is the Frameline San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival on June 21. Sridhar Rangayan, the director says that the film had a great premier at Kashish and, "we are really delighted to start our international festival run at Frameline, known for its very enthusiastic and involved audience".

Rangayan adds that the movie coincides with San Francisco Pride and attracts a large audience who are deeply connected to global LGBT movements. "Our film will shed light on the hitherto underground LGBT community in India".

When Kashish opened, there were several cheers about movies coming in from different countries abroad. Now, the reverse has happened as Purple Skies flies to 'Frisco today. We hope the audience has an eye in the sky.

Hey, isn't that Sachin?
Traffic came to a halt near Sasmira institute at Worli yesterday morning, as a visual tribute to Sachin Tendulkar was unveiled at a traffic island. The RPG Art Foundation initiative is second in a series of art installations going to come up at prominent traffic intersections in the city.

The artist Jaideep Mehrotra was, like chief guest Dilip Vengsarkar sweating freely in the June heat. Mehrotra said the art work had been five months in the making. "See it from one side and you see a work of art.

Go opposite for a look at Sachin's face." Mehrotra claimed that he wanted to capture the "impish smile" that Sachin has, that really, "was the essence of the face."
