What about this, BMC?
With the monsoon upon us, the civic authorities and medical professionals have started joint initiatives to warn people about a dengue and malaria outbreak.
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in association with Kohinoor Hospital held a malaria and dengue awareness workshop for doctors and general physicians of 'L' ward recently.
'L' ward is one of the worst hit zones in terms of malaria and dengue cases. There was a briefing by Dr. Sanjay Phunde, Medical Health Officer, BMC. Dr Phunde had said, "It is important for BMC to brief the doctors about preventive care and treatment."

The BMC meanwhile, needs to press the gas pedal on a derelict structure, infested with rats and snakes too at Babulnath, near the Mandir, opposite BKM English School, at the mouth of 2nd Dady Seth Lane.
This paper had written an extensive two-page piece on this structure months ago, with no result. Says one resident, "We have lived with this rat infested structure for so many years. As another monsoon season approaches, the attitude once again is, who cares?"
FIFA memories
Now that the FIFA World Cup has taken off in style, my mind goes back to this newspaper's crime reporting chief J Dey, who was shot dead three years ago. One remembers the strapping Dey's love for football.

Four years ago, during the World Cup, Dey would sit on a beanbag in front of the television in the office, after filing his crime story, joining in the general cheering and football banter in the workplace.
He used to say that Brazil needed to stick to their trademark style, short, quick passes instead of long runs in the European style, to reclaim their super status.
As the World Cup comes around again, I look at the spot Dey used to sit, eagerly involved in the football action and wonder whether he is smiling from above at Brazil's first match victory. "Sticking to your style, you win that way..." Dey would say.
