The city - sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Princess Pea

Princess Pea's new avatar
When it comes to design, it's the cross pollination of ideas from different streams that intrigues the mind. One such recent collaboration is between Gurgaon-based artist Princess Pea and Delhi fashion design label, Lovebirds. Pea, who is a visual artist known to explore gender and identity, while wearing a giant doll head, gave an art performance at the label's presentation at the ongoing fashion week last weekend on the theme, Born of Fire. The artist performed a balletic sequence, and the message projected was "What about me if I only think of You?", a phrase that was chanted through the performance, which started with a monologue on the defined notions of beauty, gender, and appearances in contemporary lifestyles.

To make things clearer
Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha wipes his eyes in the middle of an event at a Juhu five-star over the weekend.

Juhu's tribute to London
There's a new bar in the 'burbs, Juhu to be precise, and it's a tribute to London. Tippling Street by Gobind Chona adds to the list of several Brit themed gastropubs that have sprung up in the city, especially in the past two years.

Chef Dev Rawat

It's executive chef Dev Rawat gives us a whiff of the menu before the space opens on February 9, "The idea was to create a gastropub experience with European and British flavours with a hint of an Asian influences. It is reminiscent of London, and hence we've stuck to simple yet tasteful fare. The menu doffs its hat to English classics, like fish and chips, as well as sheperd's pie.

The Asian connect means you can enjoy tandoor-cooked food as well." We're hoping this new offing comes close to the real deal that we've tasted at London's famous weekend pop-ups, and has a better showing than many others in the city that have fallen by the wayside in their attempt to ape a British gastropub.

Odisha's sons remember Biju Patnaik
The weekend saw the launch of The Tall Man - Biju Patnaik, in Mumbai. And to pay tribute to his late father and statesman, whose birth centenary the book commemorates, was Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, along with Pt Hariprasad Chaurasia and other names from the state including cardiologist Dr Ramakant Panda, former Mumbai commissioner Arup Patnaik, Dr Santrupa Mishra and entrepreneur Subroto Bagchi. The pictorial biography by Sundar Ganesan provides a leadership template for future leaders, we hear.

No spell check for the BMC?
While the brouhaha around Queer Azaadi March (QAM) was underway in all its riotous splendour, we spotted this BMC notice at a well-kept park near the Maidan. Spellings have never been our civic authority's forte but this took it to another level altogether. It cited a number of activities that were prohibited in the park.

Here's a closer read: Gambling, sleeping, and then came 'Rogh Games'. Other banned activities included 'make nuisance', 'masaging' and finally, 'washing & crying clothes'. By crying, we think the lawmakers meant drying. We found it funny and quirky but then again, so is Mumbai.

A new green pitch for Arun Lal
Former India opener, Arun Lal seems busy these days pursuing a lesser-known passion. The now-retired cricketer is an avid naturalist. A regular visitor to the Kohka Wilderness Camp in Pench, set up by his friend and banker-turned-social activist, Sanjay Nagar, Lal nurtures this passion to the fullest and also visits the Pench National Park.

He spoke about his green interests, "Ours has been the stupidest generation to walk the planet; it has changed for the worse in the last 50 years because of our greed. One of my greatest passions is to plant trees, and I have been doing this for two decades now.

Another passion is to look after abandoned birds who need tending to." During his visits, Lal also spends time to create awareness about the environment among villagers of Pench.
