The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Wednesday Dossier

Bite into a Masterchef pizza
Celebrity chefs collaborating with restaurants seem to be the norm now. The latest to join is MasterChef India finalist Karishma Sakhrani, who has curated a special menu for Juno’s Pizza, the all-veg delivery service.

On the menu features Jalapeno Popper Pizza with garlic cream cheese, mozzarella and fiery jalapenos, a pickle-spiced Achari Kick Pizza and Four Pepper Pizza too packing in red peppers and red chilli paste.

Sakhrani says, “I’ve always loved Juno’s for their super thin crust pizzas, and working with them has given me more reason to up this appreciation.

Their focus on the freshness of ingredients and hygiene is incomparable. Also, the fact that they are all-veggie made it a perfect fit for me.”

How about a jugalbandi?

Breathe. Repeat.
It’s been a while we received a PR note as amusing as this one. The subject line had us chuckling: ‘Inhale fresh air while you workout.’ We assumed that the fitness company meant working out in the outdoors. In this case, the brand claimed to be India’s first fitness centre equipped with a pure oxygen powered air-cooling system.

Since people are more susceptible to particles in the air because they breathe deeper and stress on cardio and respiratory systems, the Breach Candy-based 20,000 sq ft Nitrro Bespoke Fitness hopes to provide an atmosphere where one can work out long hours, thus burning more fat and increasing muscle mass and sharpness, and alertness of brain function, and facilitating acceleration of stamina. Phew! Another fitness fad or a real breakthrough; we’ll pass judgment until we pay a visit.

Fashion waves from the Northeast
Northeastern talent seems to be finally getting its due in the mainstream. A fashion week in the city recently held its first ever female model auditions in Guwahati, in association with the North East Fashion & Design Council (NFDC), for its upcoming August edition. The jury included celebrated fashion designer Atsu Sekhose, leading model Sonalika Sahay and Assamese actress, Barsha Rani Bishaya.

While over hundred aspiring models sashayed the ramp, the jury picked six semi-finalists who adorned traditional Mekhala Chadors by three local couturiers — Payal Chadha, Mitrani Kakoti and Kashmiri Nath & Jyoti Kr Nath. The jury picked two winners, Suzzane Baker and Jahnabi Deori, both from Assam.

Tee off with Neil
Neil Bhoopalam charmed audiences as the righteous Aditya Singhania in the first season of 24. Now, we hear that he is taking professional golfing lessons to ensure he gets into the skin of his character in Season 2. All of this, is for just one golf shot in the series! Neil explains, “It’s more than just playing a part.

An actor must educate himself about the role. I have tried playing golf before, and have always wanted to acquire professional training. This was a sign to take it forward. Being a rich man’s sport, it offers an insight into human nature, and that helped me play the new Aditya. It was obviously not as easy as I had imagined. The sport needs a lot of discipline and body control.”

Hatt-ke sound
Unlike the 1990s, where music videos ruled the telly, this format is now active on digital platforms. Hip-Hop and live electronica act ViceVersa will release their track Chal Hatt today.

Formed by Bangalore-based producer Manas Ullas and Mumbai-based musicians Rohit Pereira aka P-Man and Sidd Coutto, ViceVersa collaborated with Pop artiste Apeksha Dandekar. The song sung in a mix of English and Marathi, and will be the trio’s first release of 2016. Fusion at its best.
