Turf’s up for RWITC
With just a little over a week to go for the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC) elections, all the thunder is not of the hooves on track but the aggro off track. One recently received a booklet called ‘Team Spirit’ from Vivek Jain’s group, for the RWITC elections slated for September 8.

This had brief introductions to the candidates in Vivek Jain’s team to contest the elections. Former chairman Vivek Jain will once again be locked in a battle royale with current chairman K Dhunjibhoy who ousted Vivek with a victory last year. In this booklet, the ‘focus areas’ as stated by Vivek Jain’s team, has salvos directed against K Dhunjibhoy’s team.

Jain and Co. claim that their focus would be to “walk the talk and drive up attendance which has seen an ‘alarming drop’ to the start of the year.” (in other words saying the current committee is unable to bring in the crowds).

They refer to “eroded confidence in the sport thanks to soft punishments to favoured jockeys and trainers” and also one which says it straight, “the team led by KN Dhunjibhoy came to power last December on the strength of presenting members with grandiose plans, a much publicised election manifesto styled ‘Racing for Change’. The only change is that the club has hurtled into its worst financial result ever.” Ouch. The gloves are off.
