Stan Lee's Chakra comes to Bollywood

We have just learnt that Stan Lee will be partnering with Phantom Films to spearhead Chakra — the Invincible, a live-action film based on the first Indian superhero created by him and Sharad Devarajan, co-founder, Graphic India.

The film will be directed by Vikramaditya Motwane (who directed Lootera, Udaan), and he promises, among other things, to not forget Stan the man's cameo in the upcoming film.

Chakra — created by the man behind some of the world's most iconic comic characters such as the Hulk, and Spiderman — is a proven success. The Indian comic book hero has a worldwide following, having hundreds of thousands of his comic books released in India and North America, along with a kid's animation film released on Cartoon Network two years ago. Three more animated films on the character are currently being produced and are scheduled for release on the channel later
this year.
While this diarist is delighted by this news, we wonder if this film will take another page out of Marvel Studios and add mid-credit and end-credit scenes? Now that would be something.

Oh, Kanhaiya!
As the controversy surrounding JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar's wild and outrageous allegations that a fellow passenger tried to strangle him on a Mumbai-Pune flight raged all of Sunday, your diarist kept trying to reach him for a comment but in vain.
We really wanted to know from the horse's mouth, if indeed someone tried to strangle him, pray why did he stop with registering a mere non-cognisable offence and not a proper criminal FIR. Finally, past 9 pm on Sunday, we decided to call the national secretary of his party's All India Students Federation (AISF), Vali Ullah Kahdri, to see if he could help us reach Kanhaiya. And we are still reeling from Kahdri's response. Here is it, without comment: “We are again on a flight, ready to take off from Pune. I will not be able to put you on a line with Kanhaiya because he is in business class and I am in economy, away from him.”

Someone had said that men with moustaches are more likely to make history, perhaps grumpily. And then there was the legendary declaration by Utpal Dutt in Gol Maal, “Jiski mooch nahi hain uska kuchh nahin hain.” Keeping the affinity for the whiskers alive, Daddysroad, a mobile app that launches on May 1, has started a contest for best moustaches. All one needs to do is grow a moustache, click a selfie and post it on their Facebook page. And as this contest is free of gender bias, women with fake ones are eligible too.

A fundraiser was held in the New Delhi to celebrate the launch of a coffee table book, Timeless Portraits of Love, backed by Delhi-based organisation Khushii, the brainchild of cricket legend Kapil Dev that supports underprivileged girl children. The book has been written by author Sathya Saran, a known name in gender writing.
The do in the capital saw the swish set loosen their purse strings for this noble cause.
The event also witnessed Art Beyond The Canvas, an unique auction of bespoke art products, sculptures and objects d'desire, conducted by Mandira Bedi. Celebrated actress, Tabu, looking radiant as ever, added to the Bollywood quotient.
Move like Chintuji

Last weekend, the audience for a retro music concert was in for a surprise. The show was dedicated in honour of Rishi 'Chintu' Kapoor but he decided to re-dedicate the event to the memory of classical maestro Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali, as it coincided with the latter's death anniversary. The outspoken Kapoor who sang and grooved on stage with wife Neetu, also recalled getting jittery while shooting his first song, Main Shaayar Toh Nahin, minus a dance master. “Dad Raj Kapoor-saab's mantra was, 'If you learn to choreograph yourself you will project your own image, instead of dancing to the instructor's tunes.' Which is why I am self-conscious in that iconic track. I gesticulated like a traffic constable,” he reminisced. We love him anyway, don't we?

It's heartening to know that the specially-abled are getting their due. The 2016 edition of Limca Book of Records is dedicated to 15 of them, who have turned their weaknesses into strength. These Mumbaikars include oncologist Dr Suresh Advani, a wheelchair-bound polio patient, who introduced Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in India and
11-year-old visually impaired swimmer Siddharth Sawant, who bagged state and national medals. The Braille edition of the record book is also available.
