Koko has replaced the Bombay Canteen as the hottest spot to be seen dining in Lower Parel. The restaurant that brings together the Tham brothers (the family behind Trilogy and The Good Wife), a Chinese chef with a Michelin star background, and a TV star mixologist, seems to have become the watering hole of Bollywood’s lovelies.

A pregnant Kareena Kapoor Khan was recently spotted at the restaurant tucking into hamachi carpaccio, crispy pork belly, aromatic prawns and chicken longhai dimsums, while husband Saif sipped on Dirty Martinis and Sake. Jacqueline Fernandez, too, was seen in an LBD, lounging with her friends.
The Head Chef of KOKO, Eric Sifu, who hails from Malaysia where he has mastered the art of making and plating, recommended dishes off the menu, and that could be why the swish set are flocking to the gastropub. Who doesn’t love to be treated special?

Shane Warne, the champion Aussie leg-spinner was like him and Warne too needed to be set right by a coach — the late Terry Jenner without whom Warne would have not been the force he turned out to be.
When Warne was picked for the Australian team to tour Sri Lanka in 1992, he drove down to Jenner’s house in Adelaide with a crate of beer to celebrate the selection. Jenner was livid. He asked Warne what sacrifices he had made to be an Australia player.
Warne had nothing to elaborate on. Basically, there were no sacrifices made. Jenner then attacked the young spinner for his drinking, partying and being overweight? He ended the conversation by asking him what he was going to do about the big opportunity to represent Australia on tour.
Warne provided a satisfactory reply and Jenner said he looked forward to seeing a rejuvenation. Warne ended up with 708 Test wickets — the most number by an Australian — and Jenner lived to see the premier achievement.

Last week, as we sat sipping on an exquisite whiskey cocktail at the bar, we spotted her standing steadfastly near the kitchen counter, minutely examining every plate that went out.
It must have not been easy, as Todd was sporting a bulky cast on her foot. But, in the two hours we were there, she only moved from the spot once to take a selfie with a few customers. Good going!

Institution connect
The Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA) will present five artists from its collection, KP Krishnakumar, KM Madhusudhanan, Surendran Nair, CK Rajan, and NN Rimzon — in a collateral event at the Kochi-Muziris Biennale.

Held in collaboration with Madhavan Nayar Foundation, the exhibition will throw light on artists who spent their formative years in the College of Fine Arts, Trivandrum, and who had a impact on Indian art in the 1980s-90s.
Art patron Nadar says that this is a “larger attempt of KNMA to collaborate with private and government art institutions and increase the visibility of art.”
