Commuters’ tendency to cross the railway tracks merely to save a few minutes is not worth risking one’s life for, but, who’s listening? Despite several warnings highlighting the dangers, public continues to jump onto the tracks, cross them and then leap up on to the next platform. As if overhead bridges are not available, or do not exist, period.

After all, walking up in a queue across the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) can’t be that difficult given even the stray dogs in Mumbai fully acknowledge the safety significance of using overhead bridges. And while on clever, law-abiding canines, here is a tale of a brave one. Citizens are forced to go to hospitals, when their health or a loved one’s needs medical attention.
CANINE SIGN: The thin dog drinking milk and (l) on an FOB
While many patients and relatives feel burdened by their own problems, be it financial or medical, a tiny puppy in civic-run Rajawadi hospital showed how, he can make a molehill out of mountains. The white puppy, his bones were jutting out of his little body and he looks positively skeletal.
Despite that, the puppy is tough and dodged people, vehicles and hospital trolleys with a swiftness that defied his weak appearance. This diarist then bought a small cup of milk for the pup and watched him gratefully lapping it up while people passing by stared. One thinks the pup will find other benefactors. Survival is the law of the (concrete) jungle.

So all ye of scientific bent of mind, may be happy to know that in memory of Sir M Visvesvaraya (Sir M V) the legendary engineer, Nehru Science Centre is set to hold a biographical exhibition on the life and works of Sir MV and a lecture series, Sir MV Memorial NSC-JSW Group “Iron and Steel Heritage of India”. Those inclined may make their way to the salubrious surroundings of the Mahalaxmi institution, to learn more about this engineer who had also won the Bharat Ratna.
