The city — sliced, diced and served with a dash of sauce

Mumbai Diary: Friday frolics

Slash attack
Rock music fans are in for a treat (depends on which band camp are you on). First came the news of Megadeth performing in the city, end of October.

And now, there is news of another genius set to perform in the city (a press release that was mailed at 2.50 am!). Fans can hear Saul Hudson, or Slash, former lead guitarist of the band Guns N’ Roses perform live.

The guitar legend will be performing in Mumbai with his band Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators as the headliners of MTV Indies extreme on November 7 (Bangalore on November 14). Tickets go live today on www.mtvixtreme.com.

Great cinema, on rewind
Amidst the huge stockpile of books on Indian (mainstream and arthouse) cinema that seem to have caught the fancy of our publishers, National Award-winning film journalist and mid-day columnist Deepa Gahlot’s book, Take-2 (Hay House) will engage the discerning cine buff.

Gahlot’s new title looks at 50 films that might have been ignored or neglected before, reflected in the tagline goes ‘50 films that deserve a new audience’. Now showing!

Get into the garba groove
It’s that time of the year when the mirrorwork ghagras and the brightly coloured dandiya sticks make their appearance in the city.

Recently, we received a press release where the tagline screamed out loud: ‘STOP THE TRAFFIC with your moves!’ The workshop claims to teach traditional garba and dandiya steps like Trikoniyu, Lehariyu, Hudiyo and interestingly some moves like the Simple 5 and Simple 7.

Clearly, these guys seem keen to take this to the next level, spreading its traditional flavour to the Gen-Next. The six-day weekend workshop also claims to give complete attention to steps, rhythm movement, attire, props usage, history and innovations of Garba and Dandiya.

Jam for a sonic get together
The Internet got us extremely nostalgic yesterday as we viewed a video of the mahurat launch of cult comedy film, Andaz Apna Apna (Sachin Tendulkar also attended the event!).

Another news that had us going back to Y2K era was the announcement that The Rishi Rich Project, featuring Rishi Rich, Jay Sean and Juggy D will be releasing a single together for the first time in 10 years.

The trio who made the Asian Underground music scene popular, have worked on a new single, titled Freak, and will release it today on digital music platforms on Universal Music India.
