A 70-year-old woman was found brutally murdered with her throat slit in her flat at Gaon Devi Co-Operative Housing Society in Goregaon West on Wednesday evening. Police say her son who is on the run is the prime suspect in the murder. The deceased has been identified as Neruben Patel. The police received a call around 7 pm after which a team from Goregaon police station rushed to the spot. According to police sources, Patel stayed with her son Babu, 45.
Babu has a job, but neighbours claimed he is also a tantrik and helped people in 'crisis'. Police said Babu came from work and saw his mother's body. Scared, he called his friend Popat Parjapati, and asked him to inform the police, after which he fled. Cupboards were opened and items strewn around in the house. Police are investigating if anything was stolen. They are also investigating all angles including human sacrifice, because of yesterday's lunar eclipse, said a source. After the panchnama the body was sent for an autopsy to Siddharth hospital. An FIR was being registered.
