Laughing at someone's misfortune can sometimes have fatal consequences. Anwar Tahad Yusuf Khan alias Anwar Hatela, 35, a resident of Nagpada, had his head bashed in two weeks ago by Mohammed Shehzad Sheikh alias Munna Ansari, 60, a neighbour, whom he had made fun of for being beaten up by a goon.
Dressed only in white
A resident of Jabalpur, Ansari is a history sheeter who made a living out of picking pockets on railway trains. "He used to spend his money on liquor and high-end clothes and was always dressed in all-white," said a police officer.

On December 31, Ansari organised a New Year's Eve bash for his friends in Nagpada. While partying, a scuffle broke between Ansari and his friends and he was badly beaten up by a goon with a bamboo stick. His legs had become swollen due to this beating.
Taunted and laughed
The next day, Anwar, while passing in front of Ansari's house, noticed him applying ointment on his legs. Anwar taunted Ansari saying, "Kya bhai, kal bahut padi kya?" and started laughing. Ansari kept mum, but when this continued for a few days, he decided to teach Anwar a lesson.
Seething over the insult, Ansari decided to teach Hatela a lesson and one night, slipped into his house and smashed his head with a stone and ran away
Ansari started keeping an eye on Anwar. On January 9, when Anwar was sleeping inside his house in Chota Sonapur, Ansari slipped inside. "Ansari was heavily drunk and had a paver block in his hand which, he smashed on Anwar's head. When he saw the blood spurting out, he was spurred into smashing the stone repeatedly on Anwar's head and then ran away," the officer added.
250 people questioned
Neighbours found Anwar's body and reported it to the police. A team was formed by Senior Police Inspector Sanjay Baswat under Assistant Police Inspector Milind Hiware. "After questioning around 250 slum and footpath dwellers, we only got one tip-off that a person with one short hand, dressed completely in white, was seen peeping into Anwar's house on the night he was murdered. We then found out only Ansari wore all-white in the locality," an officer said.
The cops finally traced Ansari to Jabalpur after an eyewitness remembered seeing someone in all white peeping into Ansari's house on the day of the murder
Fled to Jabalpur
The cops then found out that he had been missing since the day of the murder.
"With help of his phone location we found that he was in Jabalpur. We laid a trap there for three days. On January 27, we got information that a man, dressed in all-white and with one short arm, was spotted in the village. We immediately nabbed him," a senior police officer said.
Ansari confessed to his crime and revealed that he had initially only wanted Anwar to feel the same pain he was feeling, but had got carried away after hitting him once on the head. Ansari has been booked under IPC section 302 (murder) and has been sent to police custody.
