On the night of the incident, Pawan’s husband hadn’t returned from his workplace. As usual, Pawan went to sleep after putting her daughter to bed.

Around 12.30 am, the neighbours heard the woman’s scream and rushed to her house.
The house was locked from inside, so the neighbours broke open the door and found Pawan’s body lying in a pool of blood.
The victim’s daughter, though unharmed, was also covered in blood. As the neighbours looked out of the window, they noticed a man running away. None of them could see the alleged killer’s face, the police said.

The neighbours soon called the cops and rushed Pawan to a hospital, where the doctors pronounced her dead on arrival.
Avinash Dharamadhikari, senior police inspector from Sakinaka police station, said, “We have registered a case of murder against an unknown person. There was nothing valuable missing from the house. Hence, the motive of the assailant was only to kill Pawan.”

He added, “We are investigating the case from all possible angles. However, we are assuming that the man was known to the woman and wanted to kill her for a certain reason.”
The unidentified killer has been booked under sections 302 (murder) and 441 (trespassing with intent to commit offence) of the Indian Penal Code.
