In a recent drug bust that took place at Bandstand on Friday, officials from the Bandra police station arrested a couple of peddlers and confiscated 90 grams of cocaine worth Rs 3 lakh. They also recovered three mobile phones and some cash from the accused.

Police said the arrested duo used to push drugs across colleges and pubs in Khar-Bandra area. Senior Inspector Ramchandra Dhawale, from Bandra police station, said, “We received a tip-off on Friday evening about two people carrying drugs at Bandstand.

I immediately formed a team and dispatched it to the spot. The accused were identified as Majid Jahid Hussain (22), a resident of Khar Danda and Tanzanian national Khamij Ali Mataar (32).

Both have been booked under several sections of the NDPS Act. They were produced in the Bandra court and have been remanded to custody. Further links in the case are being probed.” Sources from the police station claimed that both the accused are history-sheeters and have a few cases against them under the NDPS Act.

They were arrested in a similar case a few months ago. Sources added that the duo had already sold some amount of cocaine before cops nabbed them. A police official, requesting anonymity, said, “The accused are involved in selling drugs across a few colleges in Bandra and Khar. Cocaine is in huge demand. Even though it is costly, students here can afford it.

The accused even supplied drugs to famous pubs in the area. Their network is stretched up to Santacruz, after which other gangs operate. Several people are involved in this racket, these two are small fry.”

College girls involved
According to sources from the police station, a few girls from a Bandra college are also involved in this racket. They work as carriers and sell drugs to other students, and also hunt for buyers. All the girls are under the police radar and their movements are being monitored.
