The deceased woman, 39-year-old Kalpana Dandwate, worked as a maid while Rajesh worked intermittently at a pest control agency. Most of their expenses were borne by the wife. The couple lived in Vaishali Nagar with their two of their children (a 15-year-old daughter and a 12-year-old). They also had a third child, the eldest son, who lived with his wife. The accused and his wife would have frequent fights over suspicions of infidelity issue and other family matters.
Senior Inspector Rajaram Vhanmane of Mulund Police station said, “On Wednesday, they went to Rajesh’s sister’s place to sort out their daily fights over lunch. But the discussion was not enough to calm Rajesh, who attacked Kalpana in the morning.”
The accused’s sister and her kids took him to the police station and got him arrested. Rajesh, who is now in police custody, was charged under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC.
