Mumbai Crime: Man gets lifer for murdering son

The City Sessions Court yesterday convicted Jahid Ansari (51), a resident of 90 Feet Road in Dharavi, for murdering his son and sentenced him to life imprisonment. Public Prosecutor Jyoti Sawant examined 13 witnesses, including Jahid’s wife.

The case dates back to March 15, 2014, the night on which Jahid and his son Mosin (24) had an argument. Following their quarrel, Mosin left the house and decided to spend the night at a tailor’s shop outside their building. In his statement, the tailor said he went to sleep around 1.30 am as usual. When he woke up in the wee hours for a few minutes, after his sleep was disturbed, he saw Mosin sleeping next to him.

Around 6.30 am, his sleep was once again disturbed. When he opened his eyes, he saw that someone was beating Mosin with an iron pipe. It was after chasing the attacker that the tailor discovered that it was Jahid, but the latter managed to escape.

Deposing before the judge, Mosin’s mother said, “My son used to work in a mobile shop. My husband was unemployed. On March 15, 2014, Mosin had a fight with his father, following which he decided to spend the night at the tailor’s shop. The next morning, someone came and told us that my husband had beaten my son with a rod.”

In his statement, the investigating officer said the father and son would quarrel often. He stated that Jahid went to a local dargah and offered prayers before attacking his son. “The accused was arrested on March 16, 2014, from Dhobi Ghat in Kurla,” the officer informed the judge.
