Despite the peak hour rush at Dadar station, around 6.10 pm on Thursday, it took Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel three minutes to nab a thief.
RPF sub-inspector A K Yadav was patrolling platform number 6 with PLT (Passenger Luggage Theft) constable Sachin More when they heard a commotion from platform number 5. A source from the RPF said, "The duo heard screams of ‘chor, chor’ from the platform near the RPF police station. They immediately alerted the other cops inside the RPF office and chased the thief. The accused, identified as Dadar resident Chandankumar Goud, 23, was nabbed in three minutes."

Speaking to mid-day, Dadar RPF inspector Satish Menon said, "A Thane resident, Prakash Shah, 46, was purchasing a bottle of water from a railway stall on platform number 5 when the incident took place. Shah wasn’t aware that Goud had been tailing him. When he was paying the stall owner, Goud slapped his hand, snatched his cellphone and cash and fled. But, since RPF cops are stationed across most platforms, it was easy to catch Goud. We arrested him from the foot-over-bridge that he was using to escape Dadar station. He was heading towards Kabutar Khana."
Cops have recovered a cellphone worth Rs 13,500 and cash up to Rs 8,500 from Goud. The RPF cops have handed over the thief to the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Dadar. Goud has been booked under sections 392 (robbery) and 379 (theft) of the IPC.
