Cops took a sigh of relief after catching one of the most notorious chain snatchers in the city. Unlike others in his profession, accused Parshuram Deju Salian (25) operated only in the night and targeted men instead of women.

Police finally achieved success in arresting him on January 14 and said this came after several attempts including deployment of riders in Borivli and MHB turning futile. They recovered 200 gm gold and a motorcycle from his custody. “Generally chain snatchers target housewives and college girls but Salian had a unique modus operandi. He confessed to committing 12 offenses in the last two years and seven of them had been male victims. He worked alone and in the night,” said a Borivli police officer.

He added that the accused mainly operated in the jurisdiction of Kandivli, Borivli and MHB police stations. “Assistant police inspector G Gharge and his team solved 12 cases of chain snatching and robbery committed in the last two years by arresting Salian. Further investigation is going on,” said police inspector Vasant Pingle.

Cops said following a tip off they arrested Salian in Borivli on January 14. They later presented him before Borivli court and remanded him to police custody.

Salian told the police that he lives in Virar with his wife, mother and a younger brother and has been committing the crime to make quick money. He added that he used to travel by train till Borivli or Kandivli and then pick up his bike from one of the railway stations to commit the crime.
