According to the police, the actress approached them yesterday morning, alleging that one Mufaddal Ghadiyali (32) had raped her after spiking her drink. In her complaint, the survivor said she met Ghadiyali through a common friend at an Oshiwara coffee shop on December 7. She claimed he offered her the lead role in a film, ‘72 Hours’, that he claimed to be producing.
After a few auditions, her acting fee was finalised at R7.5 lakh, and Ghadiyali asked her to come to his house to sign the contract. On December 9, she signed the agreement and took a cheque of Rs 3 lakh. Ghadiyali then coaxed her into throwing a small party and asked his manager, Deepak Thakur, to order food and drink. Ghadiyali allegedly spiked her drink and raped her.
When she woke up naked, the survivor confronted Ghadiyali, who promised to marry her. When she refused and threatened to file a police complaint, he threatened her with dire consequences and claimed that he knew underworld dons in Dubai. “She got scared and kept quiet for some time.
But he kept blackmailing her to have a relationship with him. His manager went to her house, telling her to receive Ghadiyali’s calls if she wanted to stay alive,” said a police officer. The cheque also turned out to be bogus. In the last week of December, the duo forced her into a taxi, and Ghadiyali took her to a hotel in Thane, and raped her again.
DCP (Zone XI) Balsingh Rajput said the Charkop police arrested Ghadiyali for rape and cheating, along with his manager, yesterday morning. “We are investigating whether the accused is really a film financier and had promised her any role. We are also investigating the role of the other accused,” said Singh.
