Investigation into body that washed ashore Juhu Chowpatty reveals depressing tale of an introverted MBA grad, who found no reason to live because he was a bookworm and lacked soft skills

Two days after the body of a 29-year-old washed ashore Juhu Chowpatty, the police have learnt that the man had committed suicide because he thought he was a "bookworm" and was tired of leading a lonely life. The revelations came after the police found a suicide note in the man's house.

According to the police, Ajit Dukre, an MBA graduate, had gone missing from his home in Ghatkopar on Thursday. Ajit, who was living with his brother and earned a salary of R80,000 per month with a financial asset management firm, had left home on the pretext of work. When he didn't return home, his brother filed a missing persons complaint with the Ghatkopar Police.

Late on Thursday night, the Santacruz Police retrieved a body on Juhu Chowpatty. The police were able to identify the body as that of one Ajit, based on the first class train pass, which they found in his wallet. Following inquiries with police stations across the city, the cops got in touch with Ajit's brother Anil. After Anil identified the body as that of his brother's, the police carried out a search of his home. "We retrieved a two page-long suicide note from his bag," said an officer with the Santacruz police station.
In the suicide note, Ajit blamed his lack of soft skills for a life of isolation. "Since I was a child, I was a bookworm, resulting in a solitary life. I never cared for my family and didn't mix with peers. At work, I was just passing days, as I didn't have any soft skills to communicate. I have been suffering alone, and I must end this misery by ending my life," the note read. Ajit also mentioned that he would be taking "jal samadhi". Sharad Dukre, a relative of the family, said that Ajit was always reserved. "But, we didn't find anything odd about him, as he was like that since childhood. We don't know why he took this drastic step," Sharad said.
Following a post-mortem, Ajit's body was handed over to his brother. His final rites will be carried out in Junnar in Pune district, where his parents live. "We are still investigating the suicide," said Shantanu Pawar, senior police inspector of Santacruz police station. The police are also checking CCTV cameras across Juhu beach and looking for eyewitnesses, who may have seen Ajit jump into the sea.
