Mumbai: Youth wakes up naked at LTT six hours after being mugged

The first day at work was a mixed bag for this 20-year-old youth from Antop Hill proud to finally be a breadwinner for his family, one moment he was hurrying home; and the next he was mugged and knocked unconscious by some miscreants. Six hours later, he woke up naked, confused and bereft of all his belongings.

Dilshan Barkat Ali had recently completed an industrial training course from a private institute in Mumbai and soon after got a job with Mahindra and Mahindra. Wednesday was his first day of training for the job, and Dilshan was excited to finally begin his career.

Around 6.30 pm, he was rushing home to celebrate the milestone, when he was allegedly accosted at the MIDC bus stop by strangers who knocked him out with sedatives, robbed and stripped him off his clothes, and then dumped his unconscious body at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus.

“At around 6.30 pm, I left from work and was reaching MIDC bus stop, when someone put a handkerchief on my nose from behind. Before I could turn to see their face, I passed out. I came to my senses around 11.30 pm, when people were splashing water on my face to wake me up. I realised I was at a railway station.

I didn’t have my clothes or shoes on. Even my wallet and bag were not there,” Dilshan recalled. He called his family and told them what had happened. Already wondering why Dilshan was so late on his first day, the family was shocked to learn what had happened. His father rushed to LTT and brought Dilshan home.

However, Dilshan couldn’t go to work the next day as he was feeling dizzy and had a severe headache. The family then took him to KEM Hospital and told the doctors about the mugging episode. Doctors in turn informed the MIDC police station and carried out tests to ascertain what was wrong with Dilshan.

His blood reports came back normal, and doctors said the headache and dizziness were probably the after-effects of the sedation, which would wear out soon. Dilshan took discharge against doctors’ advice, as he did not want to miss another day of training at work. The MIDC police are now investigating the matter, said officials.

His father, Barkat said, “We got really worried when Dilshan got so late on the very first day. The incident has shocked the family. Now this will be a cause of stress for us every day, until he reaches home safely.”
