A 19-year-old youth rammed his bike into a police barricade eventually injuring a cop, who was stationed near Mulund check naka. The second year engineering student was riding his bike without wearing a helmet and thus was asked to stop for a routine check-up at a nakabandi, which is being conducted jointly by the traffic police and the Mulund police.

The incident happened on Tuesday at 7.30 pm when Shubham Tejhad was coming from Thane and the police asked him to stop. Shubham did stop only to dodge the police barricade and then in an attempt to flee, injured 52-year-old constable Rajan Kawlekatkar, who fractured a portion of his back.
A resident of Rabodi, Shubham then fell down and was arrested and booked under sections 279, 337 and 338 of the IPC and sections 134 (a), (b) and 184 of the Motor Vehicle Act. Meanwhile, Kawlekatkar was taken to Fortis hospital, Thane but was discharged after a few days. Rohini Kawlekatkar, wife of Rajan said, “He was discharged on Friday afternoon but the doctors have suggested him bed rest for the next 15 days.”
Tejhad was arrested and later released on bail.
