The Mumbai crime branch has cracked a brazen robbery near the City Centre Mall last week where a shopkeeper was robbed at gunpoint.
An officer said that the incident took place on July 11, when a mobile shop owner was taking home his earnings of the past three days, a total of Rs 30 lakh.
Around 3.20pm, he was on his scooter, when two unknown men accosted him near the mall and snatched the entire amount and escaped.
The police scanned CCTV footage of the area where the incident took place and after seven hours, found CCTV footage of the accused riding a bike. The pictures were then circulated to their officers, who in turn activated their informers’ network.
They eventually found out that the two robbers were from Barmer, Rajsthan, and committed the robberies with the help of two others who live in Mumbai.
The police finally found out that a person who lives in Vile Parle and who had earlier worked at the City Centre Mall had called a relative from Rajasthan to commit the robbery.
The police arrested the accused from Kamathipura, who have been identified as Bhakaram Chaudhri and Ramesh Chaudhri.
