Both Nasir Ahmed (15) and Vahid Khan died after a BEST bus rammed into their bike just 200 meters away from their home

On December 26 around 12.30pm, on his return from school, Vahid saw the keys of the Pulsar bike lying on the table. Tempted to go for a ride, he took the keys without informing anyone in the house and asked his friend Nasir to accompany him. Hardly 200 meters away from their house they met with a horrific accident when a BEST bus crashed into them. Both were residents of Shivajinagar, Govandi.

Vahid's father owns a small hotel and Nasir's father runs a small embroidery business, according to Mohammed Wasim, Nasir’s uncle. He added, “Nasir was very attached to his family and in fact he was his father’s voice as his father cannot speak due to paralysis. Nasir was the eldest son in the family followed by one brother and three sisters.”

The boys' relatives blame BEST bus driver, claim that he was speeding. “Actually some eye witnesses have informed us that a lady was crossing the road; which led to the boys applying the breaks immediately and it caused their bike to fall. As the bus was coming at full speed the boys were hit and lost their lives on the spot,” said Khan Jafrul who is Vahid’s uncle.

Wahid used to study in the 9th standard in the Infant India school in Govandi while Nasir attended a local small night school.

Postmortem reports done at Rajawadi Hospital indicate that both Nasir and Vahid died on the spot after suffering a head injury and multiple fractures respectively. PSI Vinod Kamble from Shivajinagar police station who is investigating the case said, "The accident occurred around 12.30 pm. We have arrested the BEST driver Dnyanoba Gaikwad (36) and have filed a case of IPC 304 A (Causing death by negligence) and IPC 279 (Rash driving or riding on a public way) against him.”

The number of the bike that the is which the boys were riding is MH03 BB 548.
