The train services on the Central Railway (CR) line came to a standstill on Friday morning after a pantograph broke near Thane station. This technical fault occurred at around 10.30 am which led to train services on slow line getting severely affected.

The passengers complained that the trains came to a halt on both up and down lines. Other trains were getting diverted on the fast lines. Commuters said that the trains coming right from Kalyan towards CST were halting for over 20 minutes or more and it took nearly 25 minutes for trains to reach between Mumbra and Kalwa which on a normal day takes 5-7 minutes.

Meanwhile there was heavy rush at stations like Thane, Mulund, Kalwa and further north due to this technical snag and people were walking on tracks under the scorching heat to reach the nearest station for further journey by road.
"We rectified the problem by 12.30 pm," said a Central Railway official. Yet the rush did not recede and trains were running late by more than 20 minutes, on an average.
The matter has been resolved.

The CR authorities are already in process of upgrading the power supply from 1500-volt DC to 25000-volt AC between Thane and CST by the end of this month that apparently would bring down problems with overhead electrical equipment wires.
