Mumbai: Taxi driver comes forward to give statement in Janhavi Gadkar case

The witness goes to cops with help of a journalist, they may record his statement in front of a magistrate to make the case stronger; RIL releases statement to BSE confirming summons to its CFO

In the latest development in the Janhavi Gadkar case, the cops recorded the statement of RIL Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Alok Agarwal, who had accompanied the accident accused Janhavi Gadkar to Irish House.

Reliance Industries Limited on Friday informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) that its top executive was summoned by the Mumbai Police in the drunk-driving case involving one of their senior female executives. Agarwal is Chief Financial Officer, Reliance.

The Rashtriya Chemical Fertilisers (RCF) police on Friday had summoned him for a statement as the police learnt that Agarwal had a few drinks with Gadkar at Irish House and later she left and met with an accident on the Eastern Freeway on Monday night in which two people were killed.

"RIL CFO has received summons from Mumbai Police in the matter concerning the road accident involving Janhavi Gadkar. This is being disclosed to the stock exchanges as he is a key managerial personnel," RIL said in a statement to the BSE.

Crucial witness
On Friday, a taxi driver, who witnessed the collision when he was on his way from the Gateway of India toward Govandi, went to the cops. "The driver helped take the victims to hospital and left after that," said the taxi driver’s friend, on condition of anonymity.

The cops recorded a statement of the witness and also took him to the spot where the accident took place. They may record his statement in front of a magistrate to make the case stronger.

The cops claimed that the witness was afraid to approach them but finally he approached the cops with the help of a journalist. The witness has claimed that Janhavi got on the Eastern Freeway from CST end on Monday night and took a ‘U’ turn near Panjarpol, Chembur.
