Naresh Rathod (31) was headed home to Lower Parel when the Skoda, which was being driven at a speed of over 100 kmph, hit him from behind; his condition is critical
In proof that no tragedy is big enough to make the city’s speedsters mend their ways, a hit-and-run took place near Haji Ali yesterday, barely 48 hours after advocate Janhavi Gadkar killed two people and injured three while driving drunk on the Eastern Freeway on Tuesday.

Around 1.25 am yesterday, the driver of a black Skoda, who was speeding at over 100 kmph, rammed a biker from behind at the Haji Ali junction and, without even making an effort to stop, increased the speed and fled the spot.
Police officers said the biker, Naresh Rathod (31) a resident of Lower Parel, was thrown 20 feet into the air and his bike was sent skidding because of the impact. An employee of a private firm, Rathod was on his way home on his Unicorn bike when the incident took place.

Local beat chowky cops rushed Rathod to a nearby hospital, where his condition is said to be critical. PSI Sunil Pawar of Tardeo police station said, “Rathod was driving down from the Pedder Road side and the car was in very high speed. Our men rushed Rathod to Nair hospital. His condition is very serious.”
Just four digits
Officials said they got only four digits of the car’s registration number from eyewitnesses. “They gave us two different versions. Some stated that the driver went in the direction of Grant Road after hitting Rathod, while others said he went towards Mumbai Central.
We have not found any match with the digits in the MH 01 series and are now checking the MH 02 sequence with the help of RTO officials.” Senior Inspector Nagesh Jadhav of Tardeo police station said, “A hit-and-run case has been registered and it will be solved soon.
We are very close to tracking down the accused. We are trying to match a few numbers and are trying to get CCTV footage.”
